WorldView Interactive Study Guides Network Installation

For network installation assistance, please follow the instructions below. If you require additional technical support, please email or call us at 1-800-34-STUDY.

Typical time to install on the server: five minutes per course.

1. Identify a workstation used primarily by an instructor and use it to do the installation. We refer to this system as the "administrative workstation." Close all programs on the administrative workstation (including the Microsoft Office toolbar) before beginning the installation.

2. From your administrative workstation, make a persistent connection to the location to which you wish to install on the file server, if one has not already been established. Create a subdirectory and entitle it "WV". Make sure this subdirectory allows students the following rights: Read/Write and Shareable.

3a. If your network installation is from disks only...
Insert the setup disk #1 for the WorldView program you wish to install into your floppy drive. From the Start menu, choose Run; a:\setup.exe. Follow the on-screen directions, but change the destination location as indicated below.
3b. If your installation is from a CD and a site license disk...
Insert the CD for the WorldView program you wish to install into your CD-ROM drive and the site license disk into the floppy drive. (IMPORTANT: The site license disk is required during installation to enable the program to configure itself so that the CD will not be required during operation.) From the Start menu, choose Run; d:\setup.exe. (Use the appropriate CD-ROM letter designation.) Follow the on-screen directions, but change the destination location as indicated below.

For each network installation, we suggest that all of the WorldView programs be installed into separate subdirectories within the WV directory, rather than the default location which points to the C:\ drive of the installation system. Use the default name suggested by the installation program for the new subdirectory to be created for the title you are installing. As an example, install American History I into ..\WV\Amer1. The installation program will then create this subdirectory (Amer1) automatically.
4. Insert the setup disk of the title's supplementary question editor into the floppy drive. From the Start menu, choose Run a:\setup.exe. Install the supplementary question editor into the same subdirectory as the corresponding program.

5. The WorldView program and supplementary question editor are now installed on the server.

6. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for the other WorldView titles you wish to install.

7. From the desktop of the administrative computer you used to do the installation, copy the WorldView shortcut icons onto a diskette.

8. If you have the two Workstation Setup disks came along with the software follow the directions in Part A. If you need to download the files follow Part B.

Part A:
Two Workstation Setup disks came along with the WorldView titles and Supplementary Question Editor programs. Install the system files from the two Workstation Setup disks onto each of the learner stations on the network that will run the WorldView programs. Insert disk #1 into the floppy drive. From the Start Menu, choose Run a:\setup.exe. Follow the on-screen default instructions. Skip step 9.
Part B:
1. Download the WorldView Window System files. Unzip this file into a temporary directory on the file server. Make sure this directory is accessible from each of the learner stations on the network that will run the WorldView programs. On each of the learner stations, access this temporary directory and run the file setup.exe. Follow the on-screen default instructions. If you need WinZip to unzip the file, click here to download it. If this was successful, go to step 9.

2. If the previous step was unsuccessful, download these system files.

3. Alternatively, the system files can be installed on each learner station from two floppy disks. First, download disk #1 and disk #2 and unzip these files onto two different floppy disks. Then, on each of the learner stations, insert disk #1 into the floppy drive. From the Start Menu, choose Run a:\setup.exe. Follow the on-screen default instructions. If you need WinZip to unzip these files, click here to download it.
9. Copy the shortcuts from the diskette created in step 7 onto the desktop of the learner stations. (Note: the logical drive mappings must be the same between the system used to do the install and the learner stations. If not, edit the shortcut "target" and "start-in" properties to reflect the proper location of the program on the server.)
