About

WorldView Software, a leading independent producer of social studies software since 1990, is pleased to announce the release of new enhanced on-line versions of its award-winning software series. This Web-based application incorporates state-of-the-art features into an intuitive, interactive interface. The robust WorldView content – comprehensive enough to win state approval as a textbook – has been further enhanced with hundreds of additional graphics and hours of audio.

WorldView products offer an inexpensive way to provide for student instruction without a printed textbook. As an interactive, workbook-style, electronic textbook, learners’ responses are stored “in the cloud” and accessible at home or in school. WorldView combines the extensive content of a textbook and the versatility of a workbook with all the advantages of a computer.

Our History

WorldView Software, Inc. is a producer and marketer of high-quality educational software products for middle and high school social studies students.

Founded in 1981 as Technical Educational Consultants (TEC), the company designed training software and ancillary material for major publishers, such as Harcourt Brace, Allen & Bacon, Glencoe, and McDougal Littel. In 1990, as an outgrowth of a project for Harcourt Brace Jovanovich called the Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics, TEC began work on its first independent program.

In November 1990, American History was released and WorldView Software was born. Over the next 21 years, WorldView released over two dozen programs, covering the entire curriculum in social studies for middle school and high school.

In 1996, after the release of our Windows versions, WorldView began an association with Plato Learning. This deepened in 2004 when, in conjunction with Plato Learning, WorldView Software released its first Web-based product. Presently WorldView products constitute 18 of Plato’s course models, and are used by tens of thousands of students nationwide.

In 2011, WorldView is releasing its own new state-of-the-art Web-based courses in American History (high school), Basic American History (middle school), Civics, and U.S. Government. Designed to replace the printed textbook, and presently obtainable only through WorldView, these products will be available for student use in both the home and school environment.

In recent years, WorldView Software products have won and have been three-time finalists in AEP's Distinguished Achievement Awards, been a Codie Award finalist, won five BESSIE awards, six EDDIE awards, and 12 Media and Methods Excellence in Education Awards. In 2011, U.S. Government was recommended for approval as a textbook in Oregon. In December 2002, several WorldView Software products were approved by the Texas Education Agency for textbook funding. WorldView Software has also been approved for state textbook funding in Alabama (2004) and Idaho.
