Our History
WorldView Software, Inc. is the producer and marketer of high-quality educational software products, exclusively for middle and high school social studies classes.
Founded in 1981 as Technical Educational Consultants, the company designed training software and ancillary material for major publishers, such as Harcourt Brace, Allen & Bacon, Glencoe, and McDougal Littel. In 1990, as an outgrowth of a project for Harcourt Brace & Jovanovich called the Grammar, Usage, and Mechanics Exercise Bank Series, TEC began work on its first independent program.
In November 1990, American History was released for the Apple 2e and WorldView Software was born. In 1991, American History was converted to run on the IBM-PC. The program was then rewritten for a younger audience and released in 1992 as Basic American History. Between 1994 and 1995, WorldView Software released European History and five Global Studies titles. All products were converted to Windows format by 1996, and World History, a massive product combining information from American History, European History, and Global Studies, debuted in 1998. Geography I and U.S. Government were both released in 2002. The latest title, Economics was released in 2004.
In 2004, in conjunction with PLATO Learning, WorldView Software released its first web-based product, WorldView on the Web.
WorldView Software products have won the Media and Methods Excellence in Education Award twelve times: 1991, 1993-2000, 2002, 2004 and 2005. In December 2002, several WorldView Software products were approved by the Texas Education Agency for textbook funding in the state of Texas. In 2004, the state of Alabama also approved WorldView Software for state-sponsored textbook funds. WorldView Software has also been approved for state funding in Idaho.
